Turkey says it will pinch oil flow via the Bosporus

Article Abstract:

Turkey has unveiled plans to implement a measure that would limit oil-tanker traffic through the Bosporus waterway in Istanbul, Turkey. The proposal is expected to add pressure to the Azerbaijan International Operating Co., a consortium composed of 12 oil companies, to meet the deadline set by the Azerbaijan government. The Azerbaijan government requires the group to come up with a recommendation for a new export pipeline route with a daily capacity of one million barrels before end of October 1998. The consortium, which involves Amoco Corp. Unocal Corp. and Exxon Corp., is considering three routes, which include Turkey, Russia and Georgia.

Bilka brings charges against Turkcell board

Article Abstract:

Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S., a mobile telecommunications network operator, has its board members facing criminal charges for allegedly diluting the interest of Bilgi Kaynak ve Iletisim Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Bilka) in the company. The board allegedly devalued Bilka's holding by around $100 million. Bilka claims that decisions by Turkcell board members intended to stop it from joining in a $91-million capital increase reduced its interest in Turkcell from 6% to 1.7%, devaluing its holding from some $120 million to around $30 million.
