The United Kingdom market for tyres grew 0.9% to 767 million pounds sterling in 1992 from 760 million pounds sterling in 1991. The total car aftermarket grew almost 2% to 4.4 billion pounds sterling in 1992 from 1991 at current prices, although falling almost 2% to 3.4 billion pounds sterling in real terms. About 85% of the current market value is accounted for by replacement parts, with tyres the largest sector. The car aftermarket is expected to grow 5% by value at constant 1992 prices to 4.6 billion pounds sterling during 1992-98. The car aftermarket and tyre market are analysed.
