Water supply operations during drought: a discrete hedging rule

Article Abstract:

A mixed integer programing model was developed for operating a single water-supply reservoir through discrete rationing phases during drought or impending drought conditions. The model determines reservoir storage volumes and anticipated inflow and triggers the rationing phases with the goal of avoiding rationing for as many months as possible. The model still needs certain heuristic procedures to enable its use in actual condiitons.

Indirect covering tree problems on spanning tree networks

Article Abstract:

The solutions to two types of indirect covering tree problems using a spanning tree as backbone network were presented. A solution to the Minimum Cost Covering Subtree problem was derived through the extension of reduction techniques used in solving the location set covering problem. The Maximal Indirect Covering Subtree problem was also solved through the use of facility location and network analysis.
