Article Abstract:

Mark Featherstone-Witty, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts' chief executive, conceived the idea of the school and attracted backing from sponsors led by Paul McCartney. The building was the former Liverpool Institute for Boys, McCartney's old school, an 1873 Grade II listed building in a conservation area. The school has been revamped and extended. Internally, the majority of secondary walls and all the floors had to be changed. The outside was also restored to its original beauty.

Obituary: Aldo Rossi

Article Abstract:

Aldo Rossi studied architecture at Milan Polytechnic and later joined Casabella Continuita where he wrote several campaigning articles relating to Art Nouveau architects. He taught in the US, at Palermo and the ETH in Zurich. Rossi's worked was exhibited throughout the world and he won the Pritzker Prize in 1990. Some of his work was labelled as anti-human by critics and historians, because of his single minded way of composing forms.

An obituary of the Kingston School of Architecture and Landscape's former deputy head Tim Bell who died in 2001 is presented. His academic career and the contribution which he made to architecture are discussed.
