Yellow pages battle hits Lotus Land

Article Abstract:

Bell Actimedia, the Bell unit that publishes the company's directories and operates its Internet sites, has established an office in Vancouver, British Columbia, in mid-Jun 2000. The company, which has already established separate offices in Calgary and Edmonton, both in Alberta, intends to publish its first Vancouver directory in Dec 2000. Bell Actimedia, which will compete directly with Telus, will also launch its vancouverplus.ca website in Oct 2000.

Grocery shopping for the truly upscale

Overwaitea Food Group opened a branch of its upscale grocery stores, Urban Fare, in Yaletown, British Columbia, on Aug 15, 1999. This location was chosen because of its residents who are mainly affluent, higher-educated singles and couples whose lifestyles fit the non-traditional market served by Urban Fare. Yaletown's UrbanFare is the first grocery story of its kind to be built in Western Canada.

Outdoor ads even Vancourver can live with

Norm Vallicano of Viacom Outdoor Canada has begun an idea that could result in more outdoor billboards in the Vancouver area, a place that traditionally has been removing billboards. The company has offered to build bridges, etc. and give them to the city in exchange for being allowed to use the space for advertising for 20 years.
