DuPont to buy paint maker

Article Abstract:

Hoechst AG's Herberts GmbH unit will be acquired by E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. for $1.89 billion. Industry analysts have asserted that the acquisition of Herberts, which manufactures paint and finishes, will make DuPont the world's largest supplier of of auto coatings. Hoescht spokespersons have said that the company is interested in focusing on life sciences in the future. DuPont officials have said that the company's two-pronged strategy includes life sciences and paint operations.

Inquiry may delay Phillex merger

Article Abstract:

The proposed merger of the American Stock Exchange and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice for possible anti-trust violations. Officials of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange have complained privately that responding to the Justice Department's request for documents will take a great deal time and could delay the merger for months or years.
