S. Jersey office to cut 850 jobs

Article Abstract:

Alliance Data Systems Inc is planning to lay off 850 employees at its service center in Vorhees, in southern New Jersey. The employees provided customer and billing services for United States Satellite Broadcasting Co, and new USSB owner DirecTV plans to move its account from Alliance to Convergys Corp of Ohio. Alliance's Vorhees office will continue to employ 400 workers. Alliance says it is working with other employers in southern New Jersey to help place the workers losing jobs.

Shared medical cuts 8% of staff

Article Abstract:

Shared Medical Systems Corp. terminated almost 600 workers throughout the U.S., half of them at the company's headquarters in Malvern, Massachusetts. The layoffs were caused by cuts in federal health-care spending and post-Y2K spending reductions by the company's hospital clients.
