Bald Eagle's return provides PR hook for NY's Catskills

Article Abstract:

Albany, NY-based public services provider Sawchuck Brown Assoc developed and implemented a tourism marketing program for New York state's Sullivan County Visitors Assn in 1998-1999. The main objective of the program was to transform existing perceptions of Sullivan County to that of an outdoor mountain destination that was ideal for travelers of all ages/backgrounds. The program also sought to project the area as a suitable location for vacationing or owning a second home. SBA drew widespread media attention to the return and accessibility of American Bald Eagles in the county to reposition it. The strategy was successful and resulted in a record number of visitors to the county in 1999.
