EDS learns from Lucas failure

Article Abstract:

Information technology (IT) group Electronic Data systems (EDS) of the United States will never again seek to acquire a company while simultaneously forming a partnership with that company following its failed negotiations with Lucas Industries of the United Kingdom. EDS was trying to form a deal under which Lucas would outsource all its IT needs to EDS while EDS simultaneously acquired two Lucas businesses. One part of the deal is thought to have broken down and led to the collapse of the entire transaction. Computer Sciences Corporation of the United States is now forming such a deal with Lucas.

The company has restructured by setting up two divisions, Natural Stone Products, the quarrying side, and Atlantic granite, a granite importer. The company should benefit from rising demand for natural stone in place of concrete, and sales rose from 1994-1995. Albrighton's profit is forecast at 900,000 pounds sterling for 1995-1996 by Allied Provincial. The company looks set to undergo a recovery, and its shares are recommended in Aug 1995.
