Closing Walter Reed: Medical care imperiled, but efficiency seen

Article Abstract:

Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the US will be closed with no assurance that alternative facilities will provide equal quality or quantity of treatment for the Army personnel including the most severely wounded combat veterans. However, rather closing Walter Reed, it would make sense to renovate aging facilities at the premiere Army hospital in a phased and gradual reconstruction, which could cost less than building a new hospital.

Iran, with weak forces, seen seeking nuclear capability

Article Abstract:

The capabilities and the multiple reasons, which Iran is displaying to acquire weapons of mass destruction including nuclear arms, are discussed. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) forum said that Iranian conventional forces are not world class, but just sufficient to threaten small nearby states such as Kuwait and are no match for major powers such as the U.S. military forces.

Export controls seen deterring purchase of anti-MANPADS systems

Article Abstract:

The US export controls on military sensitive technology are hindering insertion of protective systems on airliners that defend against terrorist attacks using man-portable air defense systems, or MANPADS. BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman Corporation produce such plane-mounted anti-MANPADS protective systems while Raytheon Company offers airport-perimieter-based protective gear.
