Defining high-performance workplace skills - and how community colleges can help achieve them

Article Abstract:

Employees in the modern workplace are required not merely to follow instructions and procedures but more importantly to possess high-performance workplace skills. All companies should help promote the acquisition of high-performance workplace skills by the general workforce, since the quality of the entire workforce has an impact on the economy in general and on each company in particular. Companies can specify the high-performance workplace skills and provide inputs to community colleges so that the latter can modify their curricula to suit business needs.

The three dominant cultures of the workplace

Article Abstract:

The cultural landscape of the work environments of US companies is dominated by the cultures of comfort, complacency and contribution. They are characterized by unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence and conscious competence, respectively. Interchanging of cultures often results in confusion, misspent assets, strategy failures and loss of competitiveness. Senior managers are advised to promote positive changes toward a more appropriate workplace culture.
