Despite size difference, Monsanto, AHP to merge

Article Abstract:

St. Louis, MO-based Monsanto and Madison, NJ-based American Home Products announced early in June 1998 their merger plans. The deal was described as a merger of equals or even as a reverse takeover of AHP by Monsanto. The merged entity will be presided over by cochairmen Robert Shapiro of Monsanto and John Stafford of AHP. The board of directors for the merged company will have equal representation despite the smaller size of Monsanto.
