House chairman: DOD not 'Buying American'

Article Abstract:

Donald Manzullo, chairman of the House Small Business Committee and a self-professed strong advocate for small manufacturers, castigated the Pentagon for not taking into account the effect of its purchasing practices at the Department of Defense, on United States small businesses. He said that the United States manufacturing base is being undercut by foreign competition in a host of areas involving components that are important to defense related products.

Obering: MDA has earned raise

Article Abstract:

Lt. Gen. Henry Obering, MDA director, has told the House members that the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is on the right tract to deliver the multilayered, integrated capabilities that are required by the nation in terms of missile defense. The administration has requested $9.3 billion for fiscal 2007, representing an increase of $1.6 billion over the current 2006 appropriation, and the bulk of the MDA funding would go toward building the system.

Special Ops slated for big raise

Article Abstract:

The Pentagon's proposal has called for a 20% increase in the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) budget, bringing the SOCOM funding to over $8 billion in fiscal 2007. Representative Jim Saxton (Republican, New Jersey) has stated that the special operations has received significant new funding, a 60% increase since fiscal 2003, and the Pentagon's proposal would entail its growth by 25% as of fiscal year 2011.
