Italy employs further GMO delay tactics

Article Abstract:

The ministers from several member countries, led by Italy, demanded to establish new rules for the coexistence of organic and GM agriculture before Genetically modified organism (GMO) approvals can resume. The European commission is already formulating a strategy to manage coexistence, suggesting that Italy is simply using the issue of GM thresholds for organic products as another delaying tactic.

Italian biotech too reliant on big pharma

Article Abstract:

A Rome-based religious group, Congregation of the sons of the immaculate conception (CSIC) that owns a network of hospitals and that markets dermatological products, bought Pfizer's Italian R&D center in Nerviano, near Milan, for an undisclosed amount in 14 May 2004. According to Francesco Sinigaglia, CEO of BioXell, the quality of biotech companies is more important than quality.

Green ag minister wreaks havoc on Italy's agbiotech

Article Abstract:

Italy's Green minister for agriculture and forestry, Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, is stressing Italian agbiotech research to the point of collapse. The official is limiting the efforts of scientists and stifling research by attaching strict conditions to public funding.
