It's Bad Form to Get It Wrong

Article Abstract:

The Registrar of Companies in Scotland stores and files documents concerning all companies for public inspection. No document can be accepted unless its meets requirements. Checking is time-consuming. Time is wasted when more than fifteen per cent of the documents need to be returned to the sender more than once. Over five thousand pounds are spent in postage alone. Several documents, including annual returns, accounts, changes in officers, accounting reference data and new forms, are discussed concerning common errors. Most appear to be careless mistakes. Often, dates needed are made-up. Many documents are so poorly copied that they are not legible. It would be a great cost-saving to have them correct the first time.

Dawson International: trading in the global village

Article Abstract:

The chairman of Dawson International PLC, a Scottish textiles firm, discusses the current state of international trading and the impact of worldwide financial deregulation on commercial activity. Although Dawson International has a tradition of international trading, the 1973 decision by the company to invoice exports in local currencies and to handle foreign exchange through Swiss banks was a significant step in becoming a truly global company. The removal of exchange controls in 1979 has not only allowed Dawson to enter large retail markets in foreign countries, such as the United States, but it has also given Dawson a wider range of financing opportunities.
