John H. Harland Co

Article Abstract:

John H. Harland Co defied its 42-year history of record sales as it posted a loss of $47.4 million in 1991 from 1990's $57.2 million. The manufacturer of manifold business forms attributes its loss to a $12.2 million restructuring charge and a $3.8 million restatement for a post-retirement employee benefit accounting standard. Harland's acquisitions of Interchecks Inc and Datascan assures an improvement over revenues posted at $379 million. Long-term earnings are also expected to improve as Harland repurchases four million shares which represent more than 11% of the total outstanding.

However, Pope strongly states that there is no way for the stock to go but up considering its very weak performance of 1 cent per share for the 1991 4th qtr period ending Jan 1992.
