Sound and vision

Article Abstract:

Less is more for Harman-JBL Inc. and this is seen in the austere yet elegant designs of its high-fidelity sound systems. Zen-inspired simplicity characterize Harman's products which break away from Christmas tree setups so often found in consumer electronics. The perfect product, for Harman, does not draw attention to itself yet performs well. This is embodied in its Festival system which confines front panel buttons to the remote control. For Harman, the sound system must be a transparent interface that will make people reunited with the listening experience.

Wired for sound

Article Abstract:

Many World Wide Web site designers would add an acoustic dimension as part of their site creations if its cost was not so prohibitive. Sound can be transmitted directly from a Web page or through a separate application. Designers have a choice of several Internet broadcast packages from which to select superior high end sound. Progressive Networks Inc.'s RealAudio, Xing Technology Corp.'s Streamworks and Macromedia Inc.'s Shockwave and Flash 2 all stream audio so the sound plays as it is downloaded.
