Keep filling DoD's S&T pipeline, Congress told

Article Abstract:

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) held a competition to find a unmanned vehicle that could make the 142-mile trip from California to Nevada in less than 10 hours and though none of the 21 entrants succeeded the event tapped the talent of the general American public for solving military problems. The need for a long-term stable investment in science and technology and the addition of talent to the technological pipeline was highlighted by Ronald Sega, DOD director of defense research and engineering.

Lockheed seeks lifeline for JCM

Article Abstract:

Lockheed Martin Corp. is trying its level best to save the Joint Common Missile (JCM), a new multi-purpose missile designed to meet diverse multi-service needs. The JCM has passed test after test to verify its ability to perform in different conditions, but it is faced with financial trouble, as a result of which the US President George W. Bush proposed to eliminate the program entirely as of fiscal 2006.

Missile defense system addresses 'rogue' threat, experts say

Experts believe that the US missile defense system, about to enter its first phase of operation, would start to play an essential role in the nation's defense. The role includes protecting the US against the possibility of attacks by 'rogue states' such as North Korea and Iran that compel the US to change some of its long-held strategic defensive thinking.
