Media savvy

Article Abstract:

Several media businesses have few physical assets, their success determined by the quality of the people and the strength of their brand, and the price paid for such businesses reflects the value of these intangible assets and often includes a significant element of goodwill. A discussion on the impact of a shift from a uniform amortization of goodwill under UK Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to the requirement for an annual impairment review under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is presented.
