Optics-based products show diverse military uses

Article Abstract:

Physical Optics Corp. that offers products that combine optics and electronics for both military and commercial use and often acts as the supplier of optical subcomponents or subsystems to original equipment manufacturers (OEMS) displayed some of its wares at FOSE, an annual exposition of technologies for government customers at Washington. Some of the company's latest offerings include the "Real Time 3-D system" that enables a pilot to get a more realistic picture at a glance without the need for a viewing apparatus while the "digital audio video data recorder" may be the first visual version of the "black box" useful in determining the cause of crashes.

Researcher warns al Qaeda uses Web as weapon

Article Abstract:

Gabriel Weimann, researcher at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) stated that the Internet has become a powerful tool for al Qaeda and other international terrorist organizations, using the Web as their weapon. He believes that the Internet is the most advantageous, governed by no laws, regulations or any other controls and serving as a first line of public information on terrorist attacks.

Money, not military might, may be key in Afghanistan

Article Abstract:

The issues that hinder the growth of U.S. objectives in Afghanistan are addressed. It is proposed that money in comparison to manpower plays a prior important part in achieving this, which can come through foreign assistance, and hence a realistic approach is suggested.
