Playing with a full deck

Article Abstract:

Bernie Federman, a former managing director of an accounting firm, has been successful in combining business and pleasure in his sports cards store Card-Y-Ologist. The company not only brings him profits but allows him to enjoy his childhood hobby of trading cards. His customers collect cards that he sells for their enjoyment, nostalgia and profit. Nonetheless, he is concerned about the way children spend their money on cards and has taught children in schools on the nuances of card collecting. Even learning-disabled children are attracted to cards and are eager to read the information printed on them.

Breaking the mould

Article Abstract:

Deloitte and Touche partner Ken Zealand has been named president of the Manitoba Sports Federation (MSF). Aside from being a personal achievement, Zealand's appointment has broken the old stereotype of chartered accountants as treasurers rather than presidents of community organizations. Zealand's new position allows him to shape the MSF's relations with the public as well as with government.
