Pointcast/Chrsitopher Hassett

Article Abstract:

Pointcast Inc. is a California based firm established in 1992 by Christopher Hassett to bring information to people. The first version of the Pointcast software, delivered in Feb, 1996, gained popularity by providing tailored information to about 1.7 million people over the Internet. Hassett received $48 million from investors to expand Pointcast network. The Pointcast software appears as a dynamic screen saver, updating itself continuously with live information from sources such as CNN and Reuters. Corporations are using Pointcast to deliver company-related information to employees.

Reasons for decisions - a way forward?

Article Abstract:

The concept that administrative bodies owe those affected by their decisions a duty to explain or cite authority for those decisions, especially where deprivation of individual rights grounded in state law is involved, is growing in the European Community and should influence UK administrative law. Natural justice and common law principles of notice, or legitimate expectations, support narrowing administrative discretion and imposing such a duty on administrative bodies.
