Teaching rural development economics to undergraduate agribusiness students

Article Abstract:

Rural development economics has become an important component of curricula for both the undergraduate and graduate agribusiness courses. Curricula often include required reports that explain the economic structure of a rural county of the students' choice. The students are also required to use the input-out and spreadsheet computer programs for their assignments and reports. Instructors also utilize classroom discussions with heavy emphasis on local context. Students also learn and apply agribusiness management concepts at the local, regional, national and international context.

A framework for implementing agribusiness internship programs

Article Abstract:

The competitive agricultural marketplace has resulted in greater demand for experiential learning for agribusiness students. This learning style may be through either internship or cooperative education program. Of the two, the former has been more extensively implemented in the US. Successful internship programs include the identification of participating firms, the selection of participating students, and the development of company-specific programs with effective monitoring and evaluating systems.
