The genome sequence of the extreme thermophile Thermus thermophilus

Article Abstract:

The complete genome sequence of Thermus thermophilus HB27, which is an extremely thermophilic, halotolerant bacterium that originally isolated from a natural thermal environment in Japan, is presented. Many new genes of potential interest for biotechnological applications were found in Thermus thermophilus HB27.

Genomics taken to the extreme

Article Abstract:

The genome sequence of at least 14 extremely thermophilic microorganisms and hyperthermophilic microorganisms has been determined. Methods for the functional analysis of the genome of the extremely thermophilic bacterium Thermus thermophilus, which is amenable to sophisticated genetic analysis, are illustrated.
