UK: TESCO LAUNCHES NEW MEAT RANGE

UK supermarket Tesco has launched a new convenience food category called Simple Solutions. There are 45 lines in the range, including four beef products such as Beef Steak with Peppercorns and Beef and Black Bean Pan Fry. The category is halfway between raw cuts of meat and ready prepared foods; the recipes are described as easy to cook and based on fresh ingredients.

UK: CHILLED FRESH FOOD MARKET GROWING

Retailers and manufacturers are moving into the increasingly popular fresh food. The chilled sector continues to thrive with growth of more than 9% in the last year. Own-label has a firm grip on the market with a share of 74% but manufacturers such as McCain are joining in. Own label is also dominant in the ready meals sector. With sales topping GB[pound] 400mn the premium or luxury end of the market is growing quickly. Another area of enormous potential is chilled sauces.
