A fifth association for HR professionals

Article Abstract:

An organizational profile of the College and University Personnel Association (CUPA), a fifth member of the Consortium of Human Resource Management Associations (COHRMA), is presented. CUPA is the national association of human resources (HR) professionals in higher education. It consists of nearly 6,000 HR professionals at colleges and universities in the US and overseas. It produces a semi-monthly newsletter, quarterly journals and other research materials and conducts the AdministrativeCompensation Survey, the only annual salary survey of administrative personnel in higher education. The group also offers two professional development programs.

Preparing candidates for full-time employment with small employers: a research study

Article Abstract:

Career service practitioners predict more job opportunities in small businesses and underline efforts to create awareness of small organization employment among candidates. A survey of college and university career center directors reveals that communication skills and teamwork are essential for securing jobs with small employers. Career resources such as books, tapes and directories are used to prepare candidates for such jobs. While many respondents claimed contact with small business associations, only 41% reported employer development efforts in this direction.
