The 1998 NACE Career Services Benchmark Survey

Article Abstract:

There has been a rise in staffing levels in college and university career services offices in the US, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers 1998 Career Services Benchmark Survey. Career centres vary considerably in size, but the average centre has 3.1 interview rooms. More than half of the 578 respondents were from institutions with full-time undergraduate enrollments of 2,500 or less, with just under 2% being from institutions with full-time undergraduate enrollments of more than 20,000. Almost half of the respondents indicated that their budgets had remained unchanged from the 1997 to 1998 academic year.

Quality management in career services, a la Deming

Article Abstract:

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's career service office has successfully adopted W. Edwards Deming's total quality management (TQM) approach. The office's four-point cornerstone, which consists of constancy of purpose, monitoring to continually improve quality, staff improvement and process improvement, is derived from Deming's 14-point formula for quality control. This formula contains the necessary ingredients and guidelines for an effective management method.
