Biotech gets backing

Article Abstract:

Investors at a number of major US food manufacturers have rejected calls for an industry-wide ban on the use of biotechnology products. The companies, which include PepsiCo Inc, Safeway Inc and Quaker Oats Co, have announced that their shareholders have refused to follow suggestions aimed at entirely eliminating biotech ingredients used in their products. The decision clashes with that made by such firms as Heinz, Gerber and McDonald's.

A quantum leap

Article Abstract:

Innovations in crop protection technology has resulted in continued evolution and changes in the companies involved in crop protection. Initially, the major players in crop protection were basic chemical manufacturers and oil companies that used petrohemicals as feedstock for crop protection products. These companies have been succeeded by life science companies involved in pharmaceuticals, animal health and crop protection.
