Directing silver nanoparticles into colloid-surfactant lyotropic lamellar systems

Article Abstract:

Silver metal colloids and ordered lamellar phases of the water/SDS/hexanol/dodecane system can be combined to form hybrid systems. The colloids can be selectively directed to the aqueous region or to the organic region in the lamellar phase, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic particles. Some penetration into the hydrophobic region of the surfactant layer is noted among hydrophobic particles, but hydrophilic particles exist only in the aqueous layers. UV-visible absorption spectroscopic data showed that the phase diagrams of the lamellar phase are only minimally affected by the presence of the colloid, but a systematic shift of the boundary of the L(alpha) region and a change in the interlamellar distances are noted.

Adsorption and structural arrangement of cetyltrimethylammonium cations at the silica nanoparticle-water interface

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to understand the effects of structural arrangements of sorbed CTA(super +) ions on the stability and surface properties of SiO2 nanoparticles. An investigation was undertaken with the dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique to judge the extent of the effect of CTA(super +) sorption on the aggregation behavior of the SiO2 nanoparticle suspension.

A new model for neutron reflectometry of adsorbed surfactant aggregates

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that surfactant films adsorbed onto hydrophilic solid surfaces as bilayers are suitable for neutron reflectivity analysis. Data also point out limitations of this analysis in that it underestimates film thickness and overestimates film's fractional surface coverage.
