Effect of irradiation does in making an insulator from a self-assembled monolayer

Article Abstract:

A combination of functionalization and irradiation-induced cross-linking allows fabrication of stable metal film on top of an aromatic self-assembled monolayer, [1,1';4'1"-terphenyl]-4,4"-dimethanethiol (TPDMT) on Au. The optimal radiation exposure is a balance between a sufficient degree of cross-linking to close both static and dynamic diffusion channels at the self-assembled monolayers (SAM)-ambient interface and the limitation to keep the amount of the functional tailgroups at this interface as high as possible.

Water-graphite interaction and behavior of water near the graphite surface

Article Abstract:

The simulation results described in the previous section demonstrate convincingly that the thermodynamics and structure of the water-graphite interfacial region are extremely sensitive to the range and orientation dependence of the water-graphite interaction is presented. It is essential that the model potentials used in our simulations predict that the water monolayer compressed between two parallel graphite surface remains liquidlike and offers only slight resistance to shear.

Surface engineering of gallium arsenide with 4-mercaptobiphenyl monolayers

Article Abstract:

A new method for engineering the stoichiometric Gallium Arsenide surfaces with self-assembled monolayers of 4-mercaptobiphenyl is proposed. The result shows that the chemical modification of GaAs surfaces has a large potential for the flexible functionalization of GaAs-based semiconductor nanostructures with bio-organic molecular assemblies both in air and aqueous electrolytes.
