INDIA: ASIAN PAINTS SEEKING GROWTH

Article Abstract:

Asian Paints (India) Ltd aims to raise its share of the Indian architectural paints market from 41% to 55% by 2003. In the same period, the Indian market leader aims to become one of the ten leading producers of paints and varnishes worldwide. The sales of paints and varnishes in India are forecast to rise to 1mn tonnes per year from 600,000 tpy at present. The construction sector is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 8%, boosting demand for paints. Currently new construction accounts for 20% to 25% of the country's architectural paints consumption.

BULGARIA: PAINTS BY ORGACHIM

Article Abstract:

Although it has seen its market share fall from 70% to about 40%, Orgachim remains the Romanian market leader for paints and varnishes. The Rousse-based company controlled by the "East Europe Fund" has an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes and produces mainly architectural paints. It exports about 5,000 tonnes of coatings to Russia per year. The company has a production plant also in Romania.

INDIA: GROWTH FOR PAINT MAKERS

Article Abstract:

According to a study by the market research institute Frost & Sullivan, the turnover of the Indian paints and varnishes industry increased 10.9% to US$ 1.03bn in 1999. The study sees great potential especially in the architectural paints market and in rural regions.
