Apparatus for precision calibration of skinfold calipers

Article Abstract:

The current methods of calibration are crude, despite the fact that skinfold are widely used for measuring subcutaneous adipose tissue. The key areas to maintain are the caliper springs, the pivot joint, the indicator mechanism, and the jaw alignment. While more information is needed, the current assessment of approximately 100 new and used Harpenden calipers indicate that the important dynamic downscale jaw pressure will range between 7.7 and 8.4.
