Polystyrene size determination in polystyrene and poly(vinyl methyl ether) using electronic excitation transport

Article Abstract:

A study of the structure of poly(styrene-co-2-vinylnaphthalene) dissolved in either polystyrene or poly(vinyl methyl ether) reveals that the latter forms a compatible polymer blend with the former. The radius of gyration of a copolymer molecule, which is consistent with that of polystyrene in a theta-solvent, was found to be significantly expanded in the poly(vinyl methyl ether) host relative to the theta-condition at room temperature. The synthesis of poly(styrene-co-2-vinylnaphthalene) is described.

Hydrogen bond networks: Structure and evolution after hydrogen bond breaking

Article Abstract:

The nature of hydrogen bonding networks following hydrogen bond breaking is analyzed using vibrational echo correlation spectroscopy of the hydroxyl stretch of methanol-OD (MeOD) of MeOD oligomers in CCl4. It was found that hydrogen bond breaking initially excited OD stretches and produces their photoproduct with frequency memory of the parent network.

The Asn 38-Cys 84 H-bond in plastocyanin

Article Abstract:

The role of the H-bond between the copper-bound Cys SGamma and a vicinal Asn NH that is observed in all available plastocycnin structures is discussed. The studies shows the general importance of the second-shell ligands in two type-I blue-copper proteins.
