EUROPE: GROWTH IN CATALYST MARKET

Article Abstract:

According to a study by Frost & Sullivan, the European market for chemical catalysts will grow from US$ 3.72bn in 1998 to US$ 3.87bn in 1999 and US$ 4.94bn in 2005. The annual rate of growth is expected to remain at 4.2% until 2003 and then fall to 4% in 2004 and 4.1% in 2005. Demand for catalysts will be boosted by new environmental regulations. Growth will be driven by both existing products from contact processes and the development of new contact processes.

GERMANY: DEGUSSA CATALYST OPERATION TO HERAEUS

Article Abstract:

In Germany, Hanau-based Heraeus Holding GmbH is taking over from Frankfurt-based Degussa-Huls the processing of soluble aluminium oxide catalysts from the petrochemical industry. Heraeus thus becomes the leading processor of aluminium catalysts that contain platinum, platinum/rhenium, platinum/iridium or palladium. The catalysts are used in the production of fuels, isomerisation and selective hydration.
