Palladium-catalyzed alternating copolymerization of alkenes and carbon monoxide

Article Abstract:

Alternating copolymerization of alkenes and carbon monoxide with palladium catalysts generates chemo- and regioselective copolymers. The high regio- and stereoselectivity of the reactions develop from the interaction between the polar polymer chain end and the electrophilic palladium center. Palladium catalyzes the bond-breaking and the bond-making processes. For suitable chiral ligands, the copolymerization leads to highly isotactic materials and syndiotactic structures for propene and styrene, respectively. The ligand coordination number for palladium cation is four.

Stable ion studies of protonation and oxidation of polycyclic arenes

Article Abstract:

A review of the literature on nuclear magnetic resonance studies and the generation of persistent arenium ions from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) is presented. The review, which covers radical cations and oxidation dications of several PAHs, also look at the correlation between their charge distribution and carcINNgenic activity. Subjects considered include nephthalenium, chrysenium and hexahydropyrenium cations as well as arenium ions of (6)helicenes, benzopyrene, and pyrenium ions.

The meta photocycloaddition of arenes to alkenes

Article Abstract:

A review on the meta photocycloaddition of photoexcited benzene and derivatives of benzene to alkenes is presented. The discussion focuses on the nature of the reactive excited state, the possibility that intermediates exist along the pathway and the regiochemical and stereochemical aspects of the reactions. Four tables containing the meta adducts that have been synthesized, identified and described by the various researches that were conducted during the last 26 years are also shown.
