Selenium concentrations in natural and environmental waters

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the selenium concentrations in soils and anoxic and suboxic waters. The biological transport, toxicity, bioaccumulation and bioavailability of selenium require speciation measurements. In reducing conditions, organoselenium compound concentrations were found to increase while selenium(IV) levels drop. Furthermore, selenium levels in soils impact natural water selenium concentrations and selenium in wells and groundwater are affected by selenium levels in rivers and streams.

Developments in measuring and calculating chemical vapor transport phenomena demonstrated in Cr, Mo, W, and their compounds

Article Abstract:

Chemical vapor transport can be measured and calculated using several experimental models. Using an electronic balance, the mass flux of a compound exposed to a temperature gradient within a closed ampule can be measured by tracking the weight of deposited solids over time, given a constant transport rate. Researchers have published several models for calculating mass flux for many different compounds. Computer programs can provide model calculations for a number of steady states.

Natural terphenyls: Developments since 1877

Article Abstract:

The chemical and biological literature dealing with the isolation, structure elucidation, biological activities, transformation, and total synthesis of terphenyl derivatives from nature, the chemical investigation of which began in 1877, is surveyed. In addition, the general methods for the synthesis of substituted terphenyls and some natural terphenyl-like scaffolds are examined.
