Assesing Trainees' Attitudes and Abilities

Article Abstract:

A wide range of considerations enter into the eventual success or failure of new employees still in the training phase. And too often, only a few of these are taken seriously by management, namely, particular skills and specialized knowledge. Work history, biographical events, personality factors, general attitudes, and silent expectations are frequently just as important. For example, an individual coming out of an informal, relaxed corporate culture and into a highly structured, demanding organizational environment may not find it easy to adapt.

Attributes of the Successful Trainer

Article Abstract:

Before choosing a member of the office staff to train others, several factors must be analyzed. Skilled employees may not be interested in or have the time for training, or they may overlook the problems of a novice. A good trainer should possess a clear understanding of training methods, an understanding of the learning theory and how it should be used in training, an understanding that short cuts may not necessarily be understood, the ability to perform tasks correctly, and the ability to give prompt, helpful feedback to the trainees.
