Deloitte & Touche study finds instructor-led is favored

Article Abstract:

A study by accounting and consulting services firm Deloitte and Touche has found that classroom instruction continues to be the preferred delivery vehicle for employee training despite increasing technology costs. Eighty percent of the respondents in the study cited instructor-led training as their primary delivery technique. Deloitte and Touche Human Resource Group Dir Robert Cooper noted that a considerable amount of commitment in the front end that relates to introducing and delivering technology-driven training programs is one of the biggest challenges confronting technology- delivered training.

Users can easily become distracted by the variety of value-added features being offered by potential providers when canvassing for a fourth-party storage operator. As a result, vendor selection is frequently based on frills rather than substance. Value-added features are important considerations, but a number of basic warehouse outsourcing points should be considered before selecting a supplier. These basics include the areas of transaction integrity, transaction descipline and physical security in inventory control; warehouse cleanliness and organization; and the presence of knowledgeable staff.

Support services are critical to organizational activities yet this group has been dismissed as being a questionable investment in many firms and a drain on revenues. Yet effective support services teams exert a significant impact on the ultimate performance and success of corporations in at least two distinct ways.
