Extraordinary Communications at the Olympics

Article Abstract:

Several large high-technology corporations are pooling their expertise to provide the Los Angeles Olympic Organization Committee and the Olympic games with the latest information and communication equipment. AT&T's Olympic network is a combination of an electronic messaging system (EMS) and voice communications. The EMS consists of 1700 AT&T Teletype 5410 terminals, 300 Teletype printers, and 14 3B20S computers. International Telex services, radio paging, and audio-video signal transmission for satellite broadcasting are all linked to AT&T's fiber optic Digital Television Light Wave System. Sports events results will be reproduced on 350 Xerox copiers and forty-five electronic printers and transmitted on Xerox Telecopier 295 facsimile equipment.

AT&T Enters into Communications Pacts with Wang and Hewlett- Packard

Article Abstract:

AT&T has contracted with Wang Laboratories and Hewlett- Packard for communications equipment. Wang will supply the company with document communications and a high speed digital data link. Text written on Wang equipment can be transferred from AT&T's Dimension 85 to their Electronic Document Communication format. Hewlett-Packard will connect the Dimension System 85 and the H-P computers. This will allow for a digital switch to a computer interface.

New Equipment: AT&T Enters General-Purpose Computer Market

Article Abstract:

AT&T is introducing its 3B line of minicomputers that features the 32-bit WE 32000 microprocessor, UNIX operating system, and 256K dynamic Random Access Memory. The 3B20A has almost double the processing power of the 3B20D and 3B20S high-end superminicomputers. Models of the 3B5 medium range supermini support thirty to sixty users. The 3B2 is a desktop mini that supports eight users and is compatible with IBM PCs through the AT&T IBM Interface.
