Minicomputers and Their Applications to Office Systems

Article Abstract:

Office automation focuses upon reducing the work load of an office, improving the quality of work and rapidly transmitting information. The effectiveness of an office automation system is dependent upon its capabilities to meet the end users' needs. The minicomputer assists the office worker with basic functions such as data processing, text handling, figures, voices and images. Multifunctional features have also been added to the minicomputer in order to provide the office with a tool that performs integrated data processing tasks. These features include on-line operations, real-time control, multiple tasks, networks, interface with various peripherals, multiple-use languages and varied application software.
