NCC Will Focus on Humans as Well as Hardware

Article Abstract:

The National Computer Conference, chaired by Don B. Medley, and held in May in Anaheim, California, is focusing on people as the important factor in the Information Age. The conference is organized in nine broad categories. Each category will offer specialized seminars. In addition, Professional Development Seminars will give both background and overviews on such managerial issues as productivity, legal aspects in data processing, and computer consulting.

It is posited that common practices of Americans, such as regularly upgrading cars, televisions or clothing - not out of necessity but out of desire to remain stylish - is morally wrong when that money could be used to help feed starving children or fix other social wrongs. People should give away whatever they would typically spend on luxuries.

Dancing until we dropped

Dance partners Peggy Worth and Stan West were participating in a dance marathon at the Paradise Ballroom in Hampden, ME, when a fire broke out. The couple had been dancing for 1,100 hrs when the fire engulfed the building.
