Perkin-Elmer consolidating, outsourcing its data centers

Perkin-Elmer Corp is consolidating its six data centers around the world. The combined centers will then be managed by Digital Equipment Corp which will provide operations, disaster recovery services and systems administration. Perkin Elmer aims to simplify the technology aspects of its backoffice business by adapting its processes to the SAP software. Aside from Digital Equipment, Andersen Consulting is engaged in the design and implementation of the SAP environment while Hewlett-Packard will take care of hardware maintenance on Digital's servers.
