A very political budget

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom's Nov. 1995 budget was designed to suit the City, through addressing the European Monetary Union convergence criteria, and not to help domestic spending or in particular the housing market. Roger Humber, Housing Builders Federation director, says that cuts in the country's infrastructure are not catered for sufficiently by private finance initiative proposals, and that social housing programmes have also been cut. The basis of the budget's economic reasoning is a 1996 growth rate of 3%, although this amount of growth is not expected.

Tar very much

Article Abstract:

UK home builder Wimpey is forecast to make over 2 million pounds sterling profit from the sale of flats converted from a former cigarette factory which originally cost the company 7 million pounds to buy. The former cigarette factory is located in Newcastle on Tyne, and had been overlooked by developers because of its close proximity to both a main road and railway line. The 114 apartments have been designed to make the most of natural lighting, with many layouts incorporating split-level designs.

Lamlp: Lend Lease is the very best for Bovis

Article Abstract:

The reason behind the sale of Bovis Construction to Australian development firm Lend Lease was the fear of a serious bid from a rival company. The aim of the sale was to ensure Bovis was sold intact and as one unit, which Lend Lease could promise. Parent company P&O sold Bovis to Lend Lease in October 1999 for an agreed price of 285 million pounds sterling, compared with offers of 300 million pound sterling made by potential buyers in 1998.
