Symposium buys DSI, plans club launch

Symposium Corp has acquired magazine subscription marketing firm Direct Sales International LP for $25 million as part of the New York-based company's effort to put together a consortium of traditional marketing firms. Symposium eventually hopes to launch a Web-based shopping club using its telemarketing base. Direct Sales International makes 1 million calls a month to market magazine subscriptions on behalf of publishers.

Equifax buys Polk division for $260M

Article Abstract:

R.L. Polk Co's Consumer Information Services division has been acquired by diversified financial information firm Equifax Inc for $260 million in cash. Equifax's acquisition is expected to boost the firm's direct marketing and customer relationship management industries while allowing Polk to concentrate on its transportation business. The acquisition is expected to be finished by April 30, 2000.

ALC-DMI resolution expected in 2-3 weeks

Article Abstract:

Acxiom Corp of Conway, AR, is considering to divest Direct Media Inc (DMI) to American List Counsel (ALC) or otherwise restructure the subsidiary. Acxiom has already declared its intention to sell DMI in a deal that will give it a minority interest, while ALC will handle management and board control. DMI group leader Steve Brighton denied knowledge of the purchase price, except to say that Acxiom would yield a return from the sale.
