Bloomingdale's consolidates online, catalog operations

Article Abstract:

Federated Department Stores Inc has disclosed plans to consolidate the fulfillment operations and merchandise offerings of its bloomingdales.com and Bloomingdale's By Mail businesses. The company also has formed Bloomingdale's Direct as the umbrella division to manage the integrated businesses and has named former Land' End vice president Frank Weiglein as its vice president. Implementation of the consolidated businesses is expected to be complete by fall 2001.

Lucy.com bows out of catalog, Web

Article Abstract:

Lucy.com announced in late Jan 2001 that it would close its Web site and catalog businesses to concentrate on traditional retailing. According to Lucy.com Pres and CEO Sue Levin, the Portland, OR-based company lacks the capital needed in attempting to grow the business in three channels of distribution simultaneously. Lucy.com, which sells sporting apparel, footwear and accessories for women ages 25-40, reduced 60% of its work force by laying off 57 employees.

Montgomery Ward hires firms to sell intellectual assets

Article Abstract:

Montgomery Wards has retained the services of Consor and Newmark Retail Financial Advisors, which will sell the bankrupt retailer's trademarks, service marks and brand assets. The sale will include all of Wards' core and catalog brands; Lechmere properties, including Auto Express, Electric Avenue, Gold 'n Gems and Northwest Blue Concept Brands. The Chicago-based retail chain ceased operations in Dec 2000 after filing for bankruptcy protection.
