Bristol fashion

Article Abstract:

Bristol Development Corporation's new marketing centre, UK designed by local architect Alec French Partnership uses a nautical theme to mirror Bristol's maritime history. The building cost 300,000 pounds sterling. The mast built employing similar techniques of an artificial christmas tree, is used as the building's main structural support. The building had to be built in 19 weeks and needed to be easily dismantled in a few years time, hence the building had to be prefabricated. The use of wall panels and roof units allowed the structure to be easily installed.

Certifiable mess

Article Abstract:

A report by the U.K.'s Department of the Environment (DOE) concludes that the construction industry's quality management certification scheme is ineffective and basic changes need to be made. The consultative document from the DOE's Quality Liaison Group finds that the BS 5750/ISO 9000 scheme does not impress clients who normally do not take it into account when awarding contracts.
