Compaq set to purchase Shopping.com

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer Corp of Houston, TX, will acquire online retailer Shopping.com Inc of Corona del Mar, CA, for $19 per share or a total of $220 million. Shopping.com operates a Web site that features 63 merchandise and service categories, listing more than 2 million branded items. The acquisition would give Compaq's Alta Vista Internet portal a proprietary system for broad-based online commerce that has links to more than 1,000 suppliers. Compaq also owns Alta Vista parent Digital Equipment Corp.

Lack of broker support may doom DMI's deal with ALC

Sources within Greenwich, CT-based Direct Media Inc say that some of its individual brokers and list managers are voting against its acquisition by rival American List Counsel of Princeton, NJ. Direct Media Group Leader Steve Brighton noted that Direct Media employees would define the shape of the company as its parent firm, Conway, AR-based Acxiom Corp, attempts to restructure it. Direct Media is the world's largest list management company.

E.piphany to acquire Octane Software for $3.2 billion

Article Abstract:

E.piphany Inc has agreed to buy Octane Software Inc in an all-stock transaction worth $3.2 billion. The deal requires E.piphany to issue 12.8 million shares of its common stock to Octane shareholders who will become owners of 26.5% of the combined firm on a fully diluted basis. The merged firms aim to create braod-based customer relationship management solutions targeted at e-commerce companies.
