Top residential contractors meet in Sedona

Article Abstract:

Seventeen of the top US residential roofing contractors were in consensus that 2000 will be a financially strong year for the residential roofing market during a three-day meeting in Sedona, AZ. Most of the contractors in the meeting expect residential volumes to increase by 10%-20% or even more in 2000. One meeting participant noted that demand for laminated asphalt shingles will be robust in 2000, although high asphalt proces will be a big challenge to contractors on the cost side.

Material costs, Internet use jump in 2000

Article Abstract:

A report by RSI magazine has found that 89% percent of roofing contractors have reported price increases for roofing and insulation products. Ninety- six percent of those who experienced price increases say they plan to pass the higher costs on to their customers. Yet only 40% of contractors say they expect to see their non-residential roofing volumes increase in 2001. Most contractors expect their non-residential roofing volumes to stay the same in 2001 compared to 2000.

Contractors nix FM 4490, while almost half see an economic slowdown

Article Abstract:

Commercial roofing contractors are expecting a tougher year in 2000 compared to 1999. A survey conducted by the RSI magazine showed that only 42% expect their busiess to increase in 2000, down 8% from 1999. Around 45% expect the business to remain flat, while 13% expect to decline, up 5% from 1999. The contractors have attributed the trend to the economic slowdown in their marketing areas. The survey showed that the number of contractors which reported a decrease in volume was up 70% since 1998.
