Article Abstract:

The architects, engineers and quantity surveyors involved in the design of Vauxhall Cross, an office development in London, England, exchanged data electronically. Using the AutoCAD design system, architect Terry Farrell and Partners was able to transfer data files and drawings directly to computers using the same system at engineer, Ove Arup and Partners and quantity surveyor, Cryil Sweet and Partners. The firms all had to learn as the project progressed but were able to save time, to use data for several purposes and to produce higher quality drawings.

RCS Construction Software, for example, has a Windows-based suite call Open House, while MBA's Total Housing Solution is designed to emulate the way housebuilders work.
