Far East plan for CITB levy

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong's training levy system may be introduced into the UK by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), which is set to have its role endorsed by the government. The levy is charged on the basis of the value of contracts, rather than the value of payrolls. It is believed that it applies to contracts worth more than 100,000 pounds sterling, but mechanical and electrical works are not included. The CITB believes that adopting this levy could boost its income.

Skills review may signal end for CITB

Article Abstract:

The future of the UK's Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is in doubt as the government undertakes a reassessment of skills training. It is vital that every effort is made to avoid skills shortages in the construction industry as the market begins to revive, according to the department for education and employment. It is important to look at ways of standardising construction industry training, according to BEC chairman Paul Shepherd.
